Regional Representation:
Ten teams total divided into 2 divisions. No singles (1v1) only teams of doubles. If you do not have a partner, speak with your regional director who can look to pair singles.
Age Groups: All ages.
Tournament Format:
- Teams will compete in a round-robin format against other teams within their division.
- Divisions will be identified as Division A and Division B.
- At the conclusion of round-robin play, the top two (2) teams from Division A and the top two (2) teams from Division B will advance to the playoff round.
- Playoffs will follow a single-elimination format:
- 1st place Division A vs. 2nd place Division B
- 1st place Division B vs. 2nd place Division A
- The winners of these games will advance to the Championship Game to determine the tournament winner.
- The Host Chairperson reserves the right to modify the tournament format if necessary due to the total number of teams, scheduling constraints, or time restrictions.
Registration Deadline as designated by your Regional Director.
All registrations are done through your Regional Director, who will determine the Regional Deadline. The registration fee must also be submitted to your Regional Director. Signed consent forms must accompany the waivers.
Rules and Regulations:
World Boccia rules will be followed with the exception of classification. Players do not need to have a disability in order to be able to participate.
- Teams
- Matches are played 2 vs 2 (doubles) unless otherwise specified.
- Equipment (will be provided by tournament)
- Each player uses 6 coloured balls (red or blue).
- One white jack ball is used as the target.
- Court
- Boccia is played on a flat indoor court or gym floor with marked boundaries.
- Objective
- The goal is to throw your balls closer to the jack than your opponent’s balls.
- Starting Play
- A coin toss determines which player chooses red or blue balls.
- The player with red balls throws the jack first.
- Throwing the Jack
- The jack must land inside the court boundaries to start the end.
- Order of Play
- The player who throws the jack throws the first coloured ball.
- The opponent then throws until they have a ball closer to the jack.
- Players alternate throws until all balls are played.
- Number of Ends
- A match consists of 4 ends (rounds).
- Scoring
- At the end of each end, 1 point is awarded for each ball closer to the jack than the opponent’s closest ball.
- Balls Out of Bounds
- Any ball that crosses the boundary line is removed from play.
- Jack Out of Bounds
- If the jack is knocked out of the court, it is placed back in the center of the court.
- Throwing Rules
- Players must throw or roll the ball from within their throwing area.
- Assistive Devices
- Ramps or other assistive devices may be used if needed, but the athlete must control the release of the ball.
- Winning the Match
- The team with the highest total score after all ends wins.
- Sportsmanship
- All participants must show respect to opponents, officials, volunteers, and spectators.

Show Respect for:
- The members of your own team and of the entire contingent representing your region.
- The members of all teams competing from other regions;
- The rules and standards set down by the Provincial Sport Association, the host community and the Southern Alberta Recreation Association;
- The Sport Chairs’ decisions;
- The people of the host community, including staff, volunteers, spectators, local business personnel etc.
